At present the guild is mainly a
representative voice for particularly loyal 'common'
adventurers but it still retains much of its old power at
court and a sizable proportion of the guild are nobles.
Petty Nobles often view the Guild as a route to a higher
station. Indeed the guild leaders can still officially use
the title of 'Baron' but with no associated lands this is in
name only.

Membership

Membership is open to Nobles and those
recommended as of good and upright standing in the Kingdom.
All members must swear and keep the guild oath, a personal
oath of alliegance to the King.
Guild rules state that only those of
Noble status may join or 'those recommended as of good and
upright standing in the Kingdom'. In practice this means
anybody a Noble recommends and as the Guild leaders are
officially noble this covers anyone willing to swear the
oath and join.

Guild members swear unending fealty to
the Crown. They are expected to lay down their life for the
King if need be and support all his laws. Going by the guild
motto of 'Our King, Right or Wrong' members are duty bound
to seek out all lawbreakers and to seek out and destroy
enemies of the state wherever they may be. While
guildmembers spend most of their time seeking to destroy the
monstrous threat to the kingdom they must be prepared to do
any task their sovereign demands.

The Oath

"I swear everlasting and unconditional
allegiance to King Mark, his heirs and successors. To him I
offer my life to protect his life and all that I have in his
service for the protection of Bereny."

Semi-Exclusivivity

Membership of one other guild is allowed
under certain conditions so long as there is no conflict
with the members overriding loyalty to the Crown. We
maintain a short list of 'allowed' other guilds and members
must declare this. Any guild deemed to be unsupportive of
the Crown will be banned. For this reason membership of
another guild must be declared. Usually membership of more
than one other guild is not permitted.

Currently allowed guilds are the
'Arcane' ones: the Independant Guild of Wizards, Assembly,
Runeforge and Necromancers. Warders are permited if they are
warding enchanters who are also Royal Guild members. Consult
the leadership if you believe other guilds should be
allowed.
